Legal Services Offered
The Pope Law Firm, P.C. specializes in legal matters pertaining to:
Estate Planning: Estate planning is making a plan in advance to preserve, manage and distribute your assets after your death and/or when you become incapacitated to ensure everything is handled as easily as possible and with less burden and stress on your family and loved ones.
Wills: A Will, or Last Will & Testament, is a legal document that provides how you would like your property and other assets to be distributed after your death. It is also used to name guardians for minor children. A Will allows you to determine what happens to the things that matter to you rather than allowing state law to dictate who receives your property.
Financial Power of Attorney & Georgia Advance Directive for Health Care: A Financial Power of Attorney is a tool to designate who can manage your financial affairs and assets if you need assistance now and/or if you should become incapacitated and need assistance in the future. A Georgia Advance Directive for Health Care is a tool to designate who can make decisions regarding your health care and treatment if you should become unable to communicate those decisions to medical providers.
Probate: Probate is the legal process used to transfer or inherit property after the person who owned the property has passed away. Depending on the amount and type of property the deceased person owned, you may or may not need to go to court to transfer or inherit the property. In Newton and the surrounding counties, probate is generally not a difficult process.
Guardianships & Conservatorships: A guardianship is a legal process used to appoint a person to make decisions when a loved one cannot make or communicate significant responsible decisions concerning his/her own health or safety. A conservatorship is a legal process used to appoint a person to make decisions when a loved one cannot make or communicate significant responsible decisions concerning the management of his/her property. These tools are often used with adults experiencing dementia, Alzheimer’s or special needs as well as minors.
