Liz Sullivan was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended the University of Georgia for her undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Speech Communications. She earned a 4.0 GPA in both of her majors and graduated summa cum laude in 1994. As an undergraduate, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the 1993 Homecoming Court, Palladia, Blue Key National Honor Society, and the Defender-Advocate Society of Judicial Programs. She received 2 merit-based scholarships to attend the University of Georgia Lumpkin School of Law. She was a summer intern with the Honorable Wendy L. Shoob, Fulton County State Court after her first year of law school and then worked as a law clerk for a firm in Athens while attending law school her second and third year. She graduated cum laude in 1997 and has been practicing law in Georgia for the last twenty-seven (27) years. She started her practice with a boutique firm in Atlanta where she practiced law in both federal and state courts in 26 states regarding labor and employment matters.
After marrying Greg Pope in 2004, she moved to Covington where they practiced law together at The Pope Law Firm. She focused on local government law, collections, corporate work and estate and probate work. She served as General Counsel for the Newton County Water & Sewerage Authority, and also worked with the Newton County Board of Education and numerous local businesses. She believes in giving back to the community and served as a board member for 5 years and is the past Chairman of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for children in foster care as well as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Health for Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale counties. In addition, she served on the Board of Zoning Appeals for the City of Covington for approximately ten (10) years. She is admitted in all Georgia trial and appellate courts and has successfully argued cases before the Georgia Supreme Court. She is also admitted in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the Northern and Southern District Courts of Georgia.
Sadly, Greg passed away unexpectedly in 2017. Shortly after that, she transitioned her law practice to a much smaller, home-based practice focusing on estate, probate and guardianship matters. This has allowed her to spend more time raising her children, Ashley (19) who is a sophomore at the University of Georgia, and her son, Will (15) who is a sophomore at Eastside High School.
In April 2021, she married a long-time Covington native, Mark C. Sullivan. Liz sold the prior office location of The Pope Law Firm, P.C. and works out of her home at 2173 Conyers Street, SE, Covington, Georgia 30014. For that reason, she exclusively provides legal services to former clients, friends and direct referrals of former clients and friends.
